Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur declared best performer

The Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur has been declared the best among the 49 inland revenue offices throughout the country based on performance indicators.

Director General of the Department of Inland Revenue Chudamani Sharma said the Bharatpur office was ranked the best based on its performance. According to him, the Inland Revenue Office, Mahendranagar stood second and Butwal office came third in the ranking.

The Inland Revenue Department sets indicators to evaluate performance of its branches across the country.

Revenue collection is the main indicator while other indicators include recovery of dues, arrears clearance, expansion of tax net, market monitoring, warehouse examination, research,and full tax evaluation, among others.

The Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur, collected more than the targeted revenue in the fiscal 2015/016. It collected Rs 12.165 billion against the target of Rs 11.925 billion, which is 102.1 per cent of the targeted amount.

As per the information provided by the Bharatpur office, it collected Rs 966.29 million in revenue from income tax, Rs 74.274 million from house rent tax, Rs 54.946 from interest tax, Rs 751.966 million from VAT, Rs 10.25 billion from excise duty, Rs 48.22 million from health service tax, and Rs 18.955 million from education tax.

Although less amount of revenue could be collected in the initial months of last fiscal year due to the earthquake and border blockade, more than the targeted revenue was collected in the latter months.

Chief of the Bharatpur Inland Revenue Office, Tikaram Bhusal, attributed the rise in revenue to the increase in the number of taxpayers.

The office has also cleared arrears of Rs 80 million during the period.

The Inland Revenue Office, Bharatpur, which looks after Chitwan district and the area east of Daunne in Nawalparasi district, has 37,000 business taxpayers; 25,000 individual taxpayers and 5,800 VAT tax-payers.
