Inter-caste weds ostracized
MYAGDI: A couple was outcasted from Gaunda in Myagdi’s Devisthan VDC-3 as they had married without the consent of their parents. Lal Bahadur BK and Om Maya Pun were rejected from their village when the bride’s family rejected their marriage. The couple have been living in the district headquarters after they were ousted from their homes.
BK and Pun had tied the knot on July 12. After situation had taken a bad turn, the couple had escaped to Pokhara. The couple now are living in Beni as they were barred from living in the village in their attempt to return home.
Issuing a press conference today in Beni, the Jatiya Samata Samaj urged concerned authorities to facilitate for the safe return of the duo and their respectful stay in the village. Meanwhile, advisor of Nepal National Dalit Society Welfare Organisation Bal Kumar BK said the society should recognise such inter-caste marriages.
Stating that there had been caste based violences and conflicts in Devisthan VDC for ages, programme officer of the organisation, Tejab Gadaraj, said the incident was the latest example.
