KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 2

Nepal is joining the global community today in observing the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, designated by the UN General Assembly to combat modern forms of exploitation, including human trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation, child labour, and forced marriage.

The UN estimates that around 50 million people worldwide remain trapped in modern slavery, with women and children most affected. Global institutions, including the ILO, have called for stronger legal frameworks, victim rehabilitation, and collaborative action.

In Nepal, various events are being held to raise awareness and strengthen coordination among government agencies, civil society, and communities to fight all forms of exploitation.
