School construction in limbo

Khotang, July 24

The construction of a four-room building of Jalpa Secondary School in Nunthala, Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality, has been obstructed due to a conflict between the contractor and local consumers’ committee in Khotang.

The deadline for completion of the project has already expired. Construction work, that started one-and-a-half-years ago, was supposed to be completed before mid-July. District Education Office blocked the school account as the construction was not carried as per the agreement. The contractors have already spent more than Rs 18 lakh of the total Rs 32 lakh project budget. The office wrote to the school authority, contractor and local consumer committee several times to expedite construction, but in vain.

Teaching-learning activities at the school have been adversely affected for want of room, said head teacher Dhan Kumar Tamang.
