Journos urged to follow poll code of conduct

Pokhara, November 16

Kaski Chief Returning Officer Dipendra Adhikari today requested journalists to abide by the election code of conduct.

At an interaction with mediapersons organised in Pokhara today, Adhikari said journalists had to play a key role in publishing news in a free and fair manner during parliamentary and provincial elections. “Media must remain within the election code of conduct before, during and after the polls,” he added.

He said news update during vote counting would be handed to journalists in spite of a few technical and legal problems. He further requested mediapersons not to broadcast false information in the name of breaking news.

Adhikari further stressed that political parties and their candidates were to remain within the confines of the election code of conduct while disseminating election-publicity related content through radio, television, newspaper, and FM, among other means of communication.

He informed that some political party’s leaders were found to have violated the election code of conduct. “Oral complaints of code violation had reached the office and candidates were aware,” he said. There are three parliamentary and six provincial constituencies in Kaski.
