RAUTAHAT, APRIL 2

A woman in Rautahat's Gaur has filed a complaint at the district police office seeking action against her husband, accusing him of torturing her.

Jahan Ara of Gaur Municipality-3 had married Kamal Hasarath, son of Sabir Hussain from then Laxmaniya village about 10 years ago.

The father is now a judge at Hetauda High Court. According to the 29-year-old woman, her husband tortured her at different times at the behest of her parents-in-law.

"Though my family provided five lakh in dowry to my husband's family for the marriage, they have been meting out torture to me," said Jahan Ara. "Hoping that my husband would live happily with me, my father even bought a plot of land in Gaur Municipality and built a house therein but to no avail," she added.

Further, the woman complained that she was compelled to reach out to police after her husband assaulted her during the Shovarat festival, on the eve of the Holi festival.

"Even my father-in-law, who is a judge at Hetauda High Court, scolded me, without bothering to learn what I was going through, which is why I had to come to police to save my life," said Ara, adding that she had asked police to arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice and safety to her life. She had filed the FIR on Wednesday.

"I have two sons aged nine and six, and ever since my husband has stopped looking after us, I'm making do with the money provided by my father," said Ara.

Police have said they are preparing to take action on the basis of the FIR.
