A decade after its establishment, Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences has enrolled its first batch of students for the MBBS course.
Expectations have now gone up among people in Karnali regarding their access to health education and health care.
The Academy started MBBS classes on the basis of the decision of the Medical Education Commission taken on June 12 allowing the institution to receive 20 MBBS students.
Fifteen students, who passed the Medical Education Commission's integrated entrance examination, received admission yesterday.
All 15 students have received full scholarship while five others will be admitted after paying fees.
The Academy organised a welcome programme to receive the new students yesterday.
Om Kumar Yadav, the first student to receive admission, said he was elated to be admitted in the academy.
Likewise, another student Apekshya Parajuli said she had full confidence as regards the high-quality of teachers, laboratory and equipment.
The Academy has already started Masters' in Medicine (MD), Bachelors' in Pharmacy (M. Pharmacy), Bachelors' in Nursing (BN) and some other courses from this academy year.
The Academy is running a 300-beded hospital in Jumla for studies of higher education in the medical field.
Rector of the academy Prof Dr Niresh Thapa said the dream of students getting admitted in medical education had materialised.
