SURKHET, JANUARY 2
The first meeting of the Karnali Provincial Assembly after election of PA members convened here today in which members expressed commitment to fight poverty, hunger, and disease.
In the first meeting of the PA's second term in the province, they reaffirmed their commitment to move ahead in unison against poverty, hunger, and diseases although they were representing various political parties.
Nepali Congress Provincial Assembly party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi argued that the need of the hour was for people's representatives to tackle all sorts of challenges in Karnali Province rather than locking horns with any particular parties or the province government. Underscoring the need to formulate better and effective act and laws, Shahi extended his best wishes to all the newly elected PA members and wished them successful tenure.
Similarly, CPN-UML Karnali Province leader Yam Lal Kandel said this term of PA should be more result-oriented since the previous term had already laid foundation for delivery from the government. He denounced the tendency of corruption rather than delivering on development works in Karnali Province. CPN-Maoist Centre Karnali Province Assembly leader Raj Kumar Sharma asserted that the current leadership should protect the present system achieved after people's war and people's movement over various periods. He underlined the need to fight against poverty collectively.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Karnali Provincial Assembly member Santoshi Shahi, CPN (Unified Socialist) Province Assembly member Kalyani Khadka and independent PA member Devendra Shahi highlighted the need for coordination, collaboration and solidarity to work for peace, development, and prosperity of Karnali Province.
During the maiden meeting, senior PA member Binod Kumar Shah proposed to nominate Hikmat Bista, Bhim Prakash Sharma and Jit Bahadur Malla to chair the meeting of the Provincial Assembly in the absence of the speaker and deputy speaker.
