Killing of cows fires up Dhangadi folks

Dhangadi, July 28

Locals today protested the killing of the national animal — the cow — in Dhangadi, Kailali.

Laxminarayan Temple Management Committee led a mass with the support of Hindu devotees from Laxminarayan Temple to District Administration Office, today. They also met Chief District Officer Raj Kumar Shrestha and demanded stern action against those involved in killing cows.

Manager of the temple Hari Neupane said 10 cows were killed in the community forest of Dhangadi Municipality in the last one month. He informed that a group of 10 to 12 persons had chased a cow and killed it with spears in the forest.

A police team deployed from Kanari Police Post reached the spot after local women informed about the illegal act. In-charge Chhinchu Rana of the police post said that an injured cow died while it was being taken to Dhangadi for treatment. He informed that the remains of the cows could be found in the forest area.

Meanwhile, CDO Shrestha said that action would be taken against the suspects after investigation. According to him, Durga Bhul of Godawari was arrested today for killing a cow.
