Killings are legacy of Maoists: Oli

CHITWAN: Standing committee member of the ruling CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli today said that the cases of shootings recently was a legacy of the Maoist insurgency.

Answering a query of mediapersons at a press meet organised by Press Chautari Chitwan, Oli, said, “Such cases of shooting is the effect of the insurgency.'' Oli is in Chitwan to participate in a party programme.

Stating that the Constituent Assembly has given responsibility of drafting the new statute to his party Oli said, “The present government is responsible for drafting the statute,” adding, “The Maoists should join the government unconditionally for the timely drafting of the statute or the Maoist should form a government garnering a majority as per the constitution.” He, however, said that his party will accept Maoist government only if they accepted the conditions set by his party.

Claiming that nobody is above the constitution, Oli argued that the High Level Political Mechanism cannot change the government, adding, “The majority of the House members can do so though.'' On the rehabilitation of Maoist combatants, he said, they should be rehabilitated and integrated before the promulgation of the new constitution, adding, “The Maoists should be ready for that.''
