BAJURA, DECEMBER 28

Special health services, including emergency parturition service, have been brought into operation for the first time in Kolti Health Centre, Bajura.

Budinanda Municipality Mayor Janak Kumar Bohora said special heath services were brought into operation with the management of two expert doctors. Gynaecologist Dr Sonam Gurung from Karnali Health Science Institution and MDGP Dr Ranjit Shah from health ministry were sent to Kolti Health Centre.

With the initiative of the municipality, special health services were introduced for the first time in Kolti. The doctors carried out a caesarean section on a pregnant women in the health centre yesterday. The Dr Gurung-led team successfully operated on Ramila Lohar. The baby in Lohar's womb was upside down and the case was critical, thus they had to take the baby out through surgery.

Health Coordinator Omjung Shahi said the team had successfully performed the operation even though the case was very critical.

Bohora said the municipality took the initiative to provide health facilities to the people of remote areas.

People from Budhinanda Municipality, Himali Rural Municipality, Swamikhapar Rural Municipality and Jagannath Rural Municipality, among other local levels of the district, and people from Humla, Mugu and Kalikot districts will also benefit from the service.

Locals were visibly elated to get the health facilities in their locality. The poor, Dalits and marginalised people were deprived of health services for a long time due to lack of a well-facilitated hospital. Hikmat Odd, a local, said they had to suffer a lot if they fell ill due to lack of treatment expenses. "But now there is some relief for us as we have easy access to health services."

The main problem of people in Kolti is poverty.

Most of the people here cannot afford treatment expenses.

Medical Officer Dr Chet Dhami at Kolti Primary Health Centre said that his team was very satisfied that it was able to provide health service to people of the remote area.
