KATHMANDU, MAY 1
Ngawa Ngima Sherpa, member of the Nepal Tourism Board and a tourism entrepreneur, has been appointed as the Korean Alpine Federation's International Liaison Director for Nepal.
Sherpa received the certificate of international liaison director during a ceremony held this week in Seoul, Korea's capital, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the federation. The award was presented to Sherpa by Dr Son Jung Ho, President of the Korean Alpine Federation.
Although Sherpa was choosen to be the director of the liasion office during the presidency of Moon Jae-in, he was only sworn in two years later owing to the Covid-19 epidemic, NTB said in a statement.
Sherpa, who has been working with Korean tourists and mountaineers since 1995, would now be in charge of coordinating and liaising with Korean mountaineers visiting Nepal.
Sherpa stated that the duty and honour conferred by the Korean government belonged to all Nepalis. He also stated that he will do all in his power to bring Korean visitors to Nepal. The Deijon Municipality of Korea recognized Sherpa for his excellent efforts in serving and assisting Korean people in Nepal.
The procedure for Korean climbers seeking to scale mountains in Nepal begins only after gaining authorisation from the liaison office. Similarly, the Nepali team will also have to coordinate with the office while travelling to Korea for sports activities.
The Korean Alpine Federation is the government agency in charge of authorising most of the Korean government's sports and mountaineering activities.
Sherpa, who also runs Sora Travels and Tours and Seoul Jeeb Korean Restaurant, which caters to Korean visitors, has been coordinating with high-level delegations from Korea visiting Nepal. Similarly, Sherpa, who is also the director of Sora Adventure Treks & Expeditions, has served as Seoul National University's Nepal representative since 2019.
The Sherpa and his wife, Rajeshwari Sherpa, were also honoured at the same occasion.
