KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 12
A team of eight climbers from Korea and Nepal has successfully conquered the unclimbed Sharphu V (6,328 metres), a virgin peak located in Taplejung district.
The team of five Koreans and three Sherpas reached the peak on the morning of October 30 at around 9:00am and returned to Kathmandu safely this week.
The team had left Camp I (5,500 metres) at around 1:00am on the summit day using fixed ropes and main ropes for about 600 metres to the top.

The team was led by leader Moon Yong Jo along with members Jeongsik Moon, Yeongrong Kim, Dongjin Kim and Sung Chun Kang from Korea, along with Ngada Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa and Mingmar Anjuk Sherpa.
According to Ang Dorjee Sherpa, managing director of Ne-Ko Treks and Expeditions, the team had sought permits for the peak as there were no summits recorded there. The team left for the mountain on October 17 before gradually making their way to the top.

"As per the climbers, the top part of the peak is surrounded by huge boulders and a blanket of snow, making it hard to ascend. The huge rocks at the last point were the main challenge, which made it impossible to fix pitons without machinery along with thick snows," he said, adding that while the peak has its challenges, reaching the top provides some of the best views on surrounding landscapes and mountains, including Jannu Himal, Yalung Khang and Kanchenjunga.
