KATHMANDU: A Taiwanese woman climber today successfully scaled Gasherbrum II in Pakistan completing three peaks above 8,000m, all without using supplemental oxygen, in just 18 days.
According to Dolma Outdoor, Tseng Ko-Erh aka Grace Tseng, 29, has scaled the mountain without using supplementary oxygen at 10:00am local time. "She had climbed K2 on 22nd July, followed by Broad Peak on 28th July and today she climbed G-II without using bottled oxygen," Dawa Sherpa, Managing Director at Dolma Outdoor said.
With this, she has completed her 11th 8000ers, according to Sherpa. Legendary climber and founder of Dolma Outdoor Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, who accompanied Grace to the summit point, also completed his 13th 8000er this morning. Grace, Nima Gyalzen and Ningma Dorje Tamang will be heading for G-I after successfully scaling G-II, according to Sherpa. Becoming the first Taiwanese to scale K2, Grace is also on a mission to complete all 14 peaks at the youngest age.
Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expedition, said that Norwegian climber Kristin Harila along with Pasdawa Sherpa and Dawa Ongju Sherpa also scaled G-II at 7:19am. The trio completed their 10th 8,000er, Sherpa said.
Pasdawa, Kristin and Dawa Ongju are in a mission to complete all 14 peaks within six months aiming to break a world record set by Nirmal Purja aka Nimsdai. They have already set multiple records completing all 10 peaks in just 102 days, according to Sherpa.
Liliya from Canada along with Pema Chhiring Sherpa also scaled G-II at 8:55am being a part of the 8K Expedition, Sherpa added.
