Landslide claims three in Doti

DOTI: Three more persons died today due to landslide triggered by incessant rain in Doti district.

The deceased have been identified as Basu Luhar, 12, a resident of Khatioda-6, Gauridevi Bohara, 28, of Bhirgamandau-9, and Laxmi Chand of Mannakapadi, police said, adding that more than 10 persons were injured due to the landslide. It has been estimated that landslides in the district have damaged around 1,000 houses in 50 VDCs in the district, police said.

Raj Kapoor Chaulagain, Doti assistant CDO, said that the district had registered a record high loss due to damages caused by landslides this year after 26 years.

He informed that it would take some more days to estimate the damage caused by landslides, as they were still receiving applications of landslide victims of the district. The VDCs including Barchhain, Mannakapadi, Lanakedareshwor, Bhirgamandau, Gadsera, Nirauli, Bashudevi and Durgamandau of the district have been worst-hit by landslides.

The displaced are forced to shelter in schools and temples, locals said, adding that transportation had been affected due to the collapse of a bridge. Power supply and mobile services have also been affected due to landslides. The displaced have not taken any meal for the past four days as they have yet to receive relief from the government.
