Landslide disrupts road to Gumba village in Bajura
Bajura, August 6
Gumbagaun, a remote village in Himali Rural Municipality, Bajura, has been completely cut off from the rest of the district after a landslide swept away a section of the road linking this village.
Gubagaun is four days’ walk from district headquarters Martadi.
Devoid of any means of communication, the village became completely out of reach after the only road linking the village was swept away by a landslide caused by incessant rainfall a few days ago. Twenty-five families reside in the village.
“As people usually don’t move out of their village during monsoon, we didn’t know much about the village earlier. Now that landslide has severed the road link, we’re totally cut off from the village,” said ward Secretary Gaurikanta Sanjal.
“I myself haven’t ever been to the village as it’s in a remote area. I have, of course, heard about the problems there,” he said, adding, commuting to and from the village is risky even in dry season given the dilapidated wooden bridges over two rivulets on the way to Bichhyan.
The road disruption has become a nightmare for pregnant women of the village, as most of them are bound to deliver their babies at home which is fraught with risk.
