Landslides, flood continue wreaking havoc
DAILEKH: The swollen Karnali River swept away seven houses in Ramghat bazaar of Satla VDC-1 in Dailekh yesterday. The police said they could not dispatch any rescue team due to the inundation. Although it was feared that some people might have died, it could not be established immediately.
The Dailekh-Surkhet road section has been obstructed for two days after landslides occurred at over a dozen points. A police post at Dungeshwor had to be shifted as the building was buried by a landslide last night. There, a dozen families have also been displaced.
More than 20 bighas paddy fields in Deukhuri has been completely inundated due to the incessant rain.
Fifteen bighas of paddy fields in Jhargaira of Gadhwa VDC-3 is also under water. “Jhargaira was flooded after one of the five spurs was breached by the flood,” said police.
Farmland in Lahaba, Parahaba and Singe villages too has been waterlogged.
In Kanchanpur, 36 more houses of landless squatters of Krishnapur VDC-7 were swept away by flood yesterday night. Six dalit families of Shankarpur VDC-7 displaced for the fear of landslide.
