Landslides obstruct vehicular movement along Narayangadh-Muglin road
CHITWAN: Vehicular movement along Narayangadh-Muglin road section has come to halt after landslides obstructed the road at various places today.
According to Police Inspector Bed Prasad Gautam at Chitwan District Traffic Police Office, the rain-triggered landslides have occurred at more than 16 places including massive ones at Jalbire and Charkilo, obstructing the transportation since 1:30 am today. Security personnel have yet to reach all the sites as the incessant rain has hindered gaining access to those places.
No human casualties have been reported.
According to Narayangadh-Muglin Road Project Engineer Shiva Khanal, it would take about eight to 10 hours to resume the traffic after removing piles of landslide debris from the road. The clearing of road would be undertaken once the rain stops, Khanal said.
Meanwhile, thousands of passengers are stranded as hundreds of vehicles en route to Kathmandu and Pokhara have been stopped at Ramnagar, Chitwan while vehicles from Kathmandu and Pokhara towards Chitwan have been stopped at Muglin.
