Leaders threaten to ostracise election candidates
Biratnagar, January 13:
Representatives of seven political parties have threatened to blacklist and socially exclude the people who contest the upcoming civic polls. Speaking at a programme held here today, they urged the people to boycott the poll candidates.
Poll-boycott coordination committees will be formed in all the wards tomorrow and representatives will be deputed in all the wards of the sub-metropolis to convince the people to boycott the polls actively, it was stated at the programme.
The municipal elections will not help resolve the crisis facing the nation, former minister Amod Prasad Upadhyaya said.
“The activists should reach out to the people and ask them to boycott the polls,” he said, adding that formal meetings alone won’t help make the poll-boycott campaign successful.”
Those contesting polls should be boycotted socially, he said. Central member of the CPN-UML, Guru Baral, also stressed the need to convince the people to boycott the elections.
At another programme held here today, representatives of the seven agitating political parties said that the municipal polls were a futile exercise.
