Lekhak, Oscar meet in Geneva

Geneva, June 12:

Minister of Labour and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak met with Minister of State for Labour and Employment of India, Oscar Fernandes, on the sidelines of the 96th International Labour Conference, yesterday.

The two ministers exchanged views on the areas of labour and employment, migrant workers and their skill development. Minister Lekhak discussed the initiatives of the Nepal government to streamline the process of safeguarding interests and welfare of Nepalese migrant workers.

In this connection, he talked about instances of some unscrupulous agents using the India ports to fly Nepalese migrant workers without going through proper approval process from the Nepal government.

Minister Lekhak also asked his Qatar counterpart for allowing more Nepalese skilled and educated workers as well as semi-skilled workers in the security service, airlines and service industries. In reply, Qatar minister assured best possible cooperation from the Qatar government to facilitate recruitment of Nepali workers.
