KATHMANDU, APRIL 16

Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has secured a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly on Tuesday.

This marks the fourth time that Chief Minister Yadav has sought a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly. He received 61 votes in favor out of the 107-member assembly.

Members of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist) supported Chief Minister Yadav, who is also the JSP parliamentary leader from Madhes Province. Consequently, the Nepali Congress, Janamat Party, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party have been relegated to the opposition bench in Madhes Province.

Earlier in the day, Yadav submitted a motion requesting a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly members, amid protests from Janamat Party's assembly members. Chief Minister Yadav presented the proposal to the assembly after Speaker Ramchandra Mandal permitted him to table the motion.

Janamat Party members have been disrupting House proceedings, demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate a clash that occurred three months ago at Madhes Agriculture University in Saptari. They have been advocating for the formation of such a committee and the resignation of Chief Minister Yadav.

Yadav sought the vote of confidence from the provincial assembly after Nepali Congress assembly lawmakers withdrew their support for the Yadav-led government.

Meanwhile, Minister for Forest and Environment Ramesh Prasad Kurmi of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party resigned from his post on Tuesday, following his party's decision not to support Chief Minister Yadav's continuation.
