The government in Madhes Province has ordered an investigation into the 'riot' orchestrated by Janamat Party during yesterday's National Assembly election in Janakpur.
Provincial government Spokesperson and Finance Minister Shailendra Prasad Sah issuing a statement last evening, directed the agency concerned to investigate the incident and take action against the guilty and make them pay compensation to the victims.
The minister has instructed to identify and take action against Janamat Party cadres who vandalised vehicles carrying people's representatives to cast vote in the National Assembly polls, in accordance with the law.
Provincial Assembly member Ashok Yadav, Jaleshwor Hospital Medical superintendent Dr Satish Kumar Sah, Hariwan Mayor Ganesh Prasain and Deputy Mayor Renuka Poudel were injured in the incident.
"The government hereby directs the agency concerned to investigate and take action against Janamat Party cadres who had launched an attack on local representatives and doctors without any declared protest programme, and to provide compensation to the injured representatives and doctors," the statement read.
Meanwhile, police have said they will initiate a case against seven Janamat Party cadres arrested from Janakpurdham for their attempt to disrupt the National Assembly election yesterday.
Janamat Party cadres carrying split bamboo sticks as part of the farmers' agitation had clashed with police while they were trying to break into the National Assembly polling station in Janakpurdham yesterday.
