Madheshi Mukti Morcha on extortion drive

Kapilvastu, December 2:

VDC secretaries today said that cadres of the Madheshi Rastriya Mukti Morcha, violating the government-Maoist comprehensive national peace treaty, are extorting.

Mukti Morcha cadres, in the name of their national conference, have been forcing each VDC secretary to cough up Rs 4,000, said VDC secretaries. “When the Maoist cadres insisted on taking the money, I gave it to them,” said secretary of Sovdiha VDC Bechan Prasad Tiwari.

Another VDC secretary said: “Since all secretaries are giving the money, I also did so.”

Chief of the Maoist district peoples’ government Ram Lotan Tiwari and the district chairperson of the Madheshi Rastriya Mukti Morcha Rajendra Tiwari herded all the VDC secretaries, including the local development officer Damodar Bhandari, and pressurised them to give the money, said DDC sources. “As other parties are collecting donation for their conferences, we also are collecting money for the same purposes,” said Tiwari.

Meanwhile, a RSS report from Rajbiraj said various organisations today sought release of two employees of the Swabalamban Development Bank Mahuli branch, who were abducted by the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha on Thursday.
