Madhesi Front manhandles UML leaders, cadres in Rajbiraj

RAJBIRAJ: The United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres on Friday manhandled CPN-UML leaders and cadres who were on the street to promote the party's Mechi-Mahakali campaign beginning on Saturday.

They smeared black soot on UML District Deputy Secretary Pratap Narayan Chaudhary while chased away other leaders including the District Secretary Shambhu Yadav from the street.

While Chaudhary was distributing flyers about the UML campaign, the UDMF cadres encircled and misbehaved with him in Hatiya, Rajbiraj-1.

UDMF District Coordinator Dinesh Yadav claimed responsibility of the mistreatment arguing the  UML carried out its activities without giving a heed to the rage and anger Madhesi people had against the party.

He said it was not the UDMF, but people who smeared the black soot.

UML District Chairman Govinda Neupane, however, said the UDMF cadres resorted to the abuse after Chaudhary did not submit himself to the pressure they had put on him to leave the party.

Meanwhile, the UDMF cadres also snatched away various promotional materials as well as some cash from other party leaders, according to Neupane.

The party demanded immediate action against the assailants.

While the main opposition party is launching the nationwide Mechi-Mahakali campaign targeting the Tarai district, the UDMF has been obstructing its leaders and cadres claiming the party was against the rights of Madhesi people.
