Maina sunuwar murder : Cops blamed for tardy probe

Kathmandu, January 2:

The Accountability Watch Committee today blamed police for not properly investigating Maina Sunuwar murder case despite the apex court order.

After visiting Kavre District Police Office and examining the investigation, the AWC accused the police of not investigating the four-year-old Sunuwar murder case properly.

The apex court had directed the police to probe the case within three months and prosecute culprit in district court. Though the deadline is almost over, not the investigation.

"We found that there was no proper investigation by the police," coordinator of the AWC, Mandira Sharma, said.

"The committee is not satisfied with the investigation, as the investigating officer is yet to consult the witness. Neither has he collected necessary documents," she added.

The AWC also asked the government to form a separate investigating team comprising representatives of Nepal Police Headquarters and OHCHR.
