KATHMANDU, JUNE 3
The Malabar Whistling Thrush, a bird native to India's Western Ghats, has been recorded in Nepal for the first time.
Deu Bahadur Rana and Amrit Nepali from Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) spotted the bluish bird during a survey along the Butwal-Dang transmission line, near a cable car station in Golpark, Rupandehi.
Initially mistaken for the commonly found Blue Whistling Thrush, the bird was later confirmed as the Malabar Whistling Thrush after a detailed photo analysis. Known for its human-like whistling calls at dawn, the species has a blackish upper body with metallic blue patches on its forehead and shoulders.
BCN has confirmed this as the first official sighting of the bird in Nepal.
