SARLAHI, DECEMBER 11

Police have arrested a man with counterfeit Nepali currency worth Rs 95,000 from Fenhara, a border area in Bishnu Rural Municipality, in Sarlahi, today.

According to police, a team from the Area Police Office, Fenhara, stopped an unregistered Stimar X motorcycle entering Nepal from India at a checkpoint in Bishnu Rural Municipality–6. During the inspection, the rider, identified as Firoz Khan, 30, of Chapkaiya in Kaudena Rural Municipality–5, was found carrying 95 fake banknotes of Rs 1,000 denomination in his back pocket.

He has been taken into custody for further investigation, said SP Yogendra Kumar Khadka of the District Police Office, Sarlahi.

SP Khadka said that attempts to circulate counterfeit Nepali currency produced across the border have been increasing in recent months. He added that heightened surveillance and detailed investigations have helped police intercept such activities.
