Lahan: Maoists have issued notices to local businessmen instructing them not to pay taxes to the government. Contractors collecting taxes from local markets have stopped their activity after the Maoists have pasted such notices at several public places. The contractors had been collecting taxes from local shopkeepers with permission granted by the VDCs and DDCs for a certain period of time. “We have stopped collecting taxes for the time being,” Ram Nath Yadav, contractor of Chainpur bazaar said. According to him, he has stopped the same for the past three weeks following the notices by the Maoists. — HNS
