Maoists, cops clash in Chitwan; 15 hurt
CHITWAN: Nine police personnel and six cadres of UCPN-Maoist were injured in a clash at Bachhauli-3 today. Maoist cadres clashed with the police in their attempt to seize a private land at Malpur of Bachhauli-3 to construct Martyr Park.
The clash was ensued after the police tried to remove board and the party flag placed by the Maoist in the land. A group of Maoist cadres had reached the area aiming to construct a park in the 6 katthas of land.
Claiming that the police intervened in their pre-plan programme Maoist cadres obstructed the East-West Highway from 2-6 PM today.
District chapter of the UCPN-Maoist informed that party district in-charge Anil Sharma ' Birahi', YCL district in-charge Sasaktasaran Gole' Avishek', cadres Madhu, Dhruba Khanal and Bishnuhari Timalsina were injured in the incident.
According to the District Police Office Chitwan, ASI Satya Narayan Yadav, head constables Dipak Bhandari, Ramesh Nath and Constables Achyut Kumar Sharma, Bir Bahadur Chaudhari, Bal Bahadur BK, Jokhan Prasad Teli, Ram Kailash Ahair were injured in the clash.
SP Dhiru Basnet said the clash was minor and condition of all the injured was normal.
According Nepali Congress Bachhauli the land seized by the Maoist belongd to its cadre Jangilala Shrestha. However, the Maoist in-charge Birahi claimed that the land to be public.
Meanwhile issuing a press release, the district chapter of the UCPN-Maoist party condemned the police intervention.
The party has also challenged to produce land registration documents if it belonged to somebody. Rammani Khanal, secretary, area no-1, NC, claimed that the police and the Maoists cadres clashed after the latter tried to seize the private land.
