Maoists’ nod to four by-poll candidates

The ruling Unified CPN-Maoist held its central secretariat meeting today. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
The meeting finalised four candidates for the upcoming CA by-polls to be held on April 10. Krishna Gurung will be the party’s candidate in Kaski-1, Santosh Budha Magar for Rolpa-2, Shiva Mandal for Morang-5 and Vijaya Chaudhari for Morang-7. The Maoists are yet to zero in on the names for Kanchanpur and Dhanusha seats. Discussions were held on the party’s by-polls’ strategies and FSU elections. Earlier this morning, the secretariat met at the party headquarters in Buddha Nagar. Talks centred on finding a lasting solution to contentious political issues, like the ones raised by the agitating Tharus, indigenous and other communities. It was decided to hold dialogues with other political parties.
“Some matters need to be addressed by amending the constitution.Hence, we need take other parties into confidence,” said Dev Gurung, a Central Secretariat member.
