The District Police Office in Surkhet has seized a large quantity of opium and counterfeit currency notes.
Five individuals arrested in connection with the banned narcotics and fake currency were presented to the media by Surkhet Police on Tuesday in Birendranagar.
According to Superintendent of Police Sudhir Raj Shahi, Chief of the District Police Office, Surkhet, those arrested include Dilmaya Singh Thakuri, 22, of Kushe Rural Municipality-5, Jajarkot; her brother Ram Bahadur Singh, 33; and Krishna Bahadur Wali, 35, of Kushe Rural Municipality-7.
Also arrested were Prem Bahadur BK, 38, a resident of Bheriganga Municipality-12, Surkhet, and Man Bahadur Sahakari, a permanent resident of Naraharinath Rural Municipality-4, Kalikot. Sahakari currently operates a media company, Janagarjan Media Pvt. Ltd., located in New Road, Kohalpur Municipality-11, Banke.
Police reported that counterfeit currency worth Rs 1.3 million and opium valued at approximately Rs 9 million were recovered during the operation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects exchanged around Rs 200,000 worth of fake currency for genuine notes, most of which were reportedly used to pay traders in Surkhet and Jajarkot for the purchase of opium.
