KATHMANDU, JANUARY 11

Nepal saw a huge spike in reported number of COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day Tuesday as close to 2000 infections surfaced in a single day after months of downward spiralling numbers.

Nepal recorded 1,981 new coronavirus infections in last 24 hours, pushing the nationwide tally to 835,927 while the death toll reached to 11,607 as one fatality was recorded on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total coronavirus recoveries stand at 814,798 with 313 discharges logged today.

As per the latest data provided by the health ministry, a total of 15,033 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours of which 10,648 were PCR tests while 4,385 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 4,948,237 PCR tests have been carried out till date.

Similarly, antigen tests have confirmed 463 positive cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of single-day infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests totals to 2,444.

Nepal's Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 97.5%, while the fatality rate stands at 1.4%.

The country's active Covid-19 case count currently is 9,522.

Currently, there are 113 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Monday, Nepal had witnessed 1,357 cases of the respiratory infection while two persons had succumbed to the disease during the same period.
