Mechi’s travails with bandh culture goes on

Damak, December 7:

Day to day life in different parts of Mechi zone came to a standstill today due to a two-day bandh called by Upper Kirant Limbuwan National Forum (UKLNF).

The ULNF called bandh for Sunday and Monday demanding the release of its cadre Sagar Limbu, who was arrested from Biringkhola, Jhapa, on December 3.

The ULNF has threatened to stage a general strike in nine districts of Limbuwan area from Tuesday if their demands were not addressed.

Police arrested three UKLNF cadres from Kerkha in Jhapa, alleging them of involving in vandalism. Transport service in most parts of the Jhapa district was obstructed. Long and short distance vehicles heading to different parts of the Mechi zone stayed off the road.

However, two-wheelers were seen plying in many parts of the district. Though vehicles were plying in Damak, Suringa, Birtamod, Dhulabari, Kakarbhitta, Bhadrapur and other parts of Jhapa in the morning, they came to a halt from the afternoon.

Police nabbed Narendra Tumbahamphe, Parsuram Rishidev and Santosh Limbu of Satasidham-8 on the charge of vandalising vehicles in Jhapa’s Kerkha. The bandh organisers also damaged a college bus in Birtamod this morning, injuring driver Pratap Singh and student Sabin Bhandary.
