Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, addressed the 58th session of the United Nations Commission on Population and Development in New York today.
In his remarks, Minister Paudel highlighted Nepal's significant achievements over the past three decades in reducing child and maternal mortality. He noted a decline in child marriage and an increase in the use of family planning methods.
"Nepal remains committed to enhancing health services for its citizens. However, government efforts alone are not sufficient," he stated, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and solidarity to further improve health indicators.
The Minister also drew the international community's attention to the persistent challenges posed by limited budgets and inadequate infrastructure, particularly in remote regions, which continue to hamper access to quality healthcare. He further noted that the adverse effects of climate change threaten to reverse the hard-won progress in the health sector.

During the session, Minister Paudel also underscored the need for increased foreign assistance to help Nepal confront the pressing challenges in the health sector.
