KATHMANDU, JANUARY 31
Former Norwegian Minister and senior UN official Erik Solheim addressed the Infrastructure Development Committee of Nepal's Federal Parliament, sharing insights on infrastructure development, energy, and sustainability.
The Infrastructure Development Committee of the Federal Parliament of Nepal is actively engaged in formulating legislation related to electricity, energy, and water resources.
During his visit, Solheim met with committee members and provided insights into his upcoming engagements and support for Nepal's sustainability efforts. Additionally, he has been in discussions with IPPAL and had a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to exchange views on regional climate strategies and Nepal's role in global environmental advocacy.
Furthering his commitment to Nepal's green energy transition, Solheim has agreed to participate in the South Col Global Dialogue, launching from Varnabas Museum Hotel. This platform will facilitate high-level discussions on climate change, energy resource management, and sustainable development, positioning Nepal as a proactive nation in tackling environmental challenges.
The discussions were facilitated by Rajendra Bajgain, Member of Parliament, entrepreneur, and climate activist, known for his leadership in Nepal's environmental advocacy, including the Kalapathar Cabinet meeting and the Save the Himalaya march at COP15.
Solheim's engagement is expected to strengthen Nepal's infrastructure policies through international collaboration and expertise in sustainable development.
