MJF seeks apology from top leaders

Kathmandu, January 23:

The Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) today demanded that Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist chairman Prachanda apologise in public for the “killing of innocent people during the forum’s peaceful demonstrations” in Lahan, Siraha.

Issuing a press statement here, the MJF also demanded the resignation of Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula.

It said that a high-level judicial probe commission should be constituted under the leadership of a Madhesi and the compensation announced by the government to Ramesh Kumar Mehta’s family was not acceptable to the MJF.

It also criticised the Interim Constitution by saying that it was against Madhesis, loktantra, human rights, indigenous nationalities and the Dalits.

“Proportional representation system of election should be adopted for all the seats of the constituent assembly on the basis of population of ethnic groups, class, region, profession, language, religion, culture, including Madhesis, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, women and other minority groups,” stated the statement issued by Kishor Kumar Biswas, MJF vice-president.

“The Interim Constitution should lead the nation towards a Loktantrik republican set-up,” it said.

Biswas appealed to all to press the government to amend the Interim Constitution.
