DHANGADI, JULY 12

Deputy mayor and ward chairs padlocked the office of Bhajani Municipality, in Kailali, today.

Deputy Mayor Chhaya Devkota said they had padlocked the office of the municipality after the municipal assembly meeting was organised without discussion and their approval.

Devkota, three ward chairs and nine ward members protested Mayor Sher Bahadur Chaudhary's decision to pass the budget without formulation of the plans and discussion.

Chair of Ward 1 Rabin Thapa said they had padlocked the municipality office against the mayor's unilateral decision. They boycotted the meeting of the executive meeting of the municipality yesterday. They have also seized the minutes of the meeting.

Mayor Chaudhary is from Janata Samajbadi Party- Nepal while the agitating ward chairs are from the CPN-UML.

The padlock has affected the municipal assembly meeting. Devkota, who won the polls from the CPN-Maoist Centre, had defected to the CPN-UML. The apex court had reinstated her to the post despite the Maoist Centre's action.
