RAJBIRAJ, JANUARY 19

Madhes Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut said naming of the province as Madhes Pradesh has fulfilled the dream of martyrs from the Madhes.

Speaking at the fourth 'Martyrdom Day' organised in the memory of people who lost their lives during the Madhes agitation in Rajbiraj today, the chief minister said, "It was the dream of Madhes martyrs to see the establishment of a Madhes Province, with the naming of this province as Madhes Province, their dream has borne fruit."

On a different note, Raut alleged that the federal government was dithering when it came to granting provincial governments the power they were entitled to.

"We have the police act of our province ready, but the much-awaited police adjustment has yet to happen, which is why we had to file a case with the Supreme Court," he observed, also accusing the central government of being reluctant to adjust civil servants. Raut also revealed the government's plan to set up Martyr's Park in the five districts of Madhes Province.

The province has been marking Magh 5 (January 19) as Martyrdom Day to commemorate the death of Ramesh Mahato during the first Madhes agitation in Lahan of Siraha 15 years ago.

On the occasion today, the government provided Rs 300,000 to each of the 57 Madhes agitation martyrs' families.
