NC blames YCL, leaders for defeat in Dhankuta
Dhankuta, April 20:
The Dhankuta chapter of the Nepali Congress has concluded that the party was defeated in the CA polls due to intimidation of YCL cadres and anti-republic remarks of party leaders. The conclusion came at the meeting of the NC’s Dhankuta district committee.
The meeting was convened yesterday to review the NC’s showing in the polls.
The NC chapter said the party lost here because voters could not vote in a free and fair manner, adding that delay in the unification of the NC and the NC (D) was another reason behind the poor showing of the party in the polls.
NC Dhankuta chairman Manohar Narayan Shrestha, who contested the polls in Dhankuta-1 on NC ticket, said his party had the misconception that people will vote for it just because it brought the Maoists to mainstream politics. The party must analyse the post-CA polls scenario carefully and decide whether or not to join the government to be headed by the Maoists, he said.
The meeting also asked the central office of the NC to give continuity to the Ganeshman Peace Programme, Bisheshwor with the Poor Programme and Women Awareness and Income Generation Programme.
