‘NC leadership will change after 14th convention’

Jhapa, January 14

Nepali Congress General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala today said the party leadership would change from the 14th general convention at any cost.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Union of Birtamod, Jhapa, General Secretary Koirala accused party President Sher Bahadur Deuba of failing to rise above factionalism. “Deuba does not have a dream for the party. He has failed to rise above factionalism,” Koirala slammed Deuba.

Koirala stressed the need to forge unity among groups other than Deuba’s establishment faction. Five leaders from factions other than the establishment faction have to be united to oust Deuba from the post of president at any cost.

Many leaders are capable of holding the post of president from outside the establishment faction, Koirala added. He claimed that senior leader Ramchandra Paudel, Krishna Sitaula, Shekhar Koirala, Prakashman Singh and he himself were capable to become the party president.

Koirala, however, cast doubt over Sitaula saying that he was a shrewd politician.

Koirala claimed the dispute seen in the party would come to an end after party’s 14th general convention. He accused the incumbent government of violating laws and the constitution. “The Oli-led government has failed miserably as it has not done anything new for the people and country,” Koirala stated.
