KATHMANDU, JULY 14
Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi today told the Central Working Committee meeting that the party should make its preparations for the upcoming provincial and federal elections in such a way that the party should be able to win a simple majority to enable it to form the government under its leadership.
He said while the alliance could be necessary to form the government, the party should opt for seat-sharing arrangements in the elections.
We should be flexible about bringing back those candidates that rebelled against the party in the local election and won the elections, Nidhi added. He also said that the party's ticket distribution should not be conducted in a manner that some people might think that being an independent candidate would be better than choosing to remain in the political parties.
Nidhi advised the party president to win the confidence of the 'power centres' within the party in order to achieve better results in the elections.
Citing BP Koirala's phrase that the party's practice should conform to its principle, he said the party should always stick to its principles. "We should not say that now is not the time to stick to principles," Nidhi added.
He said the NC, being a leading political force, should take the lead role in enforcing constitutional provisions as Articles of the constitution that guaranteed powers to lower tiers of the government had not yet been implemented.
He also advised the party to hold a convention to discuss and finalise the party's ideological programmes.
