NC urges CPN to join mainstream politics

Kathmandu, March 16

The main opposition Nepali Congress today urged the government and Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal to find a solution through dialogue.

Issuing a press statement, the NC has formally clarified its stance on recent violent activities of the Chand-led CPN and the government’s decision to ban the party and its activities.  It has also urged the Chand-led  CPN to join mainstream politics.

“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure security and maintain law and order. However, the government should not adopt politics of negation in the name of maintaining security. This is against the constitution. So, we urge the government to seek a durable solution through dialogue.”

NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma issuing the statement has urged the ruling Nepal Communist Party and Chand-led CPN to respect people’s desire for peace after longstanding conflict. CPN had torched Ncell towers throughout the country recently and terrorized people by placing Improvised Explosive Devices in various parts of the country.

The government on March 12 banned the party. Major leaders of the party, including the Netra Bikram Chand, are underground.
