GAIGHAT, MAY 30
After two-and-a-half decades, Nepali Congress has won the mayoral race of Triyuga Municipality and bagged victory in most of the wards in the municipality in Udayapur.
Triyuga was declared a municipality in 1998. NC has dismantled the CPN-UML's stronghold and won the mayoral post 25 years after Triyuga was proclaimed a municipality.
The final vote count states that NC's Basant Basnet has defeated UML's Bhagawan Raut with a margin of 2,086 votes. Basnet got 13,959 votes, while his rival Raut got 11,873 votes. CPN-Unified Socialist's Baldev Chaudhary received 9,146 votes.
UML's Maheswori Rai won the deputy mayor by defeating NC's Sarita Rai with a margin of 1,022 votes.
Out of 16 wards, Nepali Congress won the chairs of wards 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11,12, and 13.
CPN-UML bagged victory in wards 2, 6, 7, and 10. CPN-Maoist Centre won the chairs of wards 14, 15, and 16. In Ward 10, CPN- UML and NC candidates got equal votes.
UML's Kiran Pandey defeated NC's Prakash Khadka in a lucky draw.
