KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 23
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has called for increased public caution after a sharp rise in fire-related disasters across the country.
Of the 18 disaster incidents reported on November 8, 15 were fire-related, the authority said. A day earlier, 15 out of 19 reported disasters were also fires. Significant property damage was recorded in Makawanpur, Chitwan, Kaski and Kailali, with two people injured and losses estimated at Rs 5.37 million.
NDRRMA noted that many fires were caused by negligence, while others resulted from electrical short circuits. The authority warned that a lack of awareness and careless handling of flammable materials continues to fuel repeated incidents.
Urging the public to adopt basic safety measures, NDRRMA said that simple precautions can prevent major damage to life and property.
