Close to 190,000 people departed Kathmandu Valley in the past five days to celebrate the Dashain festival, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
From September 17 to 21, a total of 189,214 passengers traveled in 29,360 public vehicles through the Thankot, Sanga, Dakshinkali and Balaju checkpoints.
According to the reports, 34,556 people departed the valley on Sept 17, 36,100 on Sept 18, 40,555 on Sept 19, 34,879 on Sept 20 and 43,124 on Sept 21.
With Bada Dashain almost here, most of the students, workers and businesspeople are heading to their home districts.
However, despite this time being the peak time for the transport entrepreneurs, Nepal police have reported delays on several highways, citing landslides that stranded thousands of vehicles.
The main connecting road to and from the Kathmandu valley, Narayangadh-Muglin road have been obstructed since Friday due to the landslide in Tuin Khola. Although it was briefly opened for one way traffic from yesterday the traffic was not moving smoothly along the road. It was earlier closed for two hours from 1pm today afternoon.
The New Bus Park in Gongabu has been handling over 15,000 outbound passengers daily-triple the normal flow-as people secure tickets to reach their villages for Nepal's biggest Hindu festival.
