KATHMANDU, MAY 8

A high-tech laboratory unit has been established at the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), aiming to enhance secure sample testing during outbreaks of infectious diseases and epidemics.

Inaugurating the facility, Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel stated that the Ministry is prioritizing the strengthening of laboratory infrastructure, with the objective of making Nepal self-reliant in laboratory diagnostics.

According to Dr. Ranjan Bhatta, Director of the NPHL, this is the first unit of its kind in Nepal and was completed at a cost of approximately Rs 40 million.

On the occasion of the inauguration, the World Health Organization (WHO) provided essential diagnostic kits for testing 52 priority diseases.

Dr. Bhatta noted that these kits will be distributed to provincial and district-level hospitals to support the diagnosis of various illnesses.
