NCP trying to impose one-party rule: Deuba
Sunsari, September 11
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the government of seeking to impose single-party system on the country.
Addressing the second municipal meeting of Nepali Congress Dharan sub-metropolis today, Deuba condemned the motives of the present government and asked his party cadres to be ready for a fight.
“The communist government led by KP Sharma Oli is violating people’s freedom. In the Media Council Bill, for one, the government has proposed prison sentence and a huge amount in fine for a journalist for just writing news. Similarly, it has managed to keep the National Human Rights Commission under its thumb,” he said, urging his party cadres to be ready for a struggle to restore people’s rights that have come under threat.
The opposition leader also claimed that his party would win the upcoming by-election in Dharan. “We will make a good start by winning the by-election in Dharan,” he said.
Party Vice-president Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar also spoke on the occasion and echoed Deuba’s claim of winning the by-election in Dharan this time. “Even late communist Manamohan Adhikari didn’t do anything after winning in the election from here and becoming the PM in the past. We are the ones who have given a great gift to the people here by setting up the famous BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences,” he said.
