Nepal earthquake sequence: Light tremor recorded in Dhading

KATHMANDU: A light tremor, which has been considered an aftershock of the Nepal earthquake sequence, was recorded in Dhading district on Saturday morning.

The seismic event at 6:00 am was of local magnitude 4.0, the National Seismological Centre said.

Its epicentre (27.79, 84.80) lies close to Benighat.

The last significant aftershock of the earthquake sequence was recorded on February 4 in Dolakha.

It was of local magnitude 4.4.

Thousands of aftershocks have followed the  mainshock that hit Barpak region of Gorkha district  on April 25, 2015 at 11:56 am.

The National Seismological Centre, however, has processed the data related to 476 significant ones -- of local magnitude 4.0 or above -- and listed them on its website.

At occasions, it has informed the public about the epicentre and magnitude of minor aftershocks also.

The frequency and the size of seismic activities, however, have gone down gradually in the Gorkha-Dolakha fault section of Main Himalayan Thrust that was ruptured by the April 25,2015  earthquake.

Around 9,000 people were killed in the Nepal earthquake sequence, with most of the fatalities caused on April 25 and May 12.
