Preliminary report of candiates' standing based on early stages of vote count

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 21

Counting of votes cast for the Federal and Provincial Assembly elections have begun across various parts of the country.

So far, the election commission officials have completed the counting process of one consituency, Mustang, where Nepali Congress' candidate Yogesh Gauchan has emerged victorious, becoming the first Member of Parliament elect in this election.

In Kathmandu, newly formed Rashtriya Swatantra Party has shown significant presence with three leads in three constituencies - 6,7 and 8.

Here is what the current standing of various parties and their candidates looks like, at the preliminary stage of counting:

Lalitpur

In this district, CPN-UML candidates -- Nawaraj Silwal, Prem Maharjan, Amrit Khadka -- are leading in all three constituencies.

Bhaktapur

Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidate Bharat Bahadur Khadka is leading in Bhaktapur-1 while Durlabh Thapa Chhetri of Nepali Congress has taken a lead against UML's Mahesh Basnet in Bhaktapur-2.

Saptari

NC candidate Ramdev Sah is currently leading in Saptari-1 while in Saptari-2, Janmat Party's CK Raut is leading with Janata Samajwadi Party's Upendra Yadav trailing behind.

Banke

RPP's Dhawal Shamsher Rana is leading Banke-2 while UML's Kismet Kumar Kakshapati is at the first spot in Banke-3.

Jhapa

In Jhapa-3, RPP's Rajendra Lingden has currently left NC's Krishna Prasad Sitaula behind. Meanwhile, in Jhapa-2, UML's Devraj Ghimire has taken a lead and RSP's Shambhu Dhakal is leading Jhapa-4.

Kaski

In Kaski-2, Madhav Kandel of RSP has taken a lead against UML's Bidya Bhattarai.

Makwanpur

Coalition's candidate, NC's Mahalakshmi 'Deena' Upadhyaya has taken a lead in constituency-2 of the district against RPP-Nepal's candidate Kamal Thapa who contested the elections under UML's symbol. In Makwanpur-2 Mahesh Kumar Bartaula of UML is currently in the forefront.

Chitwan

NC's Bishwa Pokhrel has a very narrow lead against RSP's Hari Dhakal in Chitwan-1.

Chitwan-2, which is perhaps the most 'exciting' constituency in the country at the moment, currently has UML's Krishna Bhakta Pokhrel at the forefront of the parliamentary race with NC's Umesh Shrestha trailing right behind. Rabi Lamichhane, who was expected to lead with the prelimiinary vote counts, is currently at the third spot.

Dhanusha

Juli Kumari Mahato of UML is leading Dhanusha-3, where she is closely followed by Janmat Party's Shambhunath Shah.
