Nepal-India border sealed for 72 hours

JHAPA: Entry points along the Nepal-India border in Jhapa have been sealed for 72 hours in view of the December 7 elections.

According to Chief District Officer of  Jhapa Rishiram Tiwari, the Kakarbhitta entry point has been sealed  starting 6:00pm on Monday till Thursday evening. “During this period, Nepali nationals entering Nepal will, however, be allowed to cross over,” said DSP Tanka Prasad Bhattarai, chief of Area Police Office, Kakarbhitta.

Also, a meeting of the district security committee of Parsa has decided to close the customs office in Birgunj for 72 hours.  “Besides the closure of the office, we’ve also stepped up security ahead of the polls,” said Chief District Officer of Parsa Binod Prakash Singh.

He added that a joint team of Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department have been deployed at the site.
